Day 2 Update - Alex "Spartan"

Today, along with visiting the sugarcane village, we played our first game here in the Dominican Republic. After we came back from the village we had lunch, and just kind of chilled in our rooms or in the lobby of the SCORE hotel. We left a few minutes after this. We had our game in the capital of DR; Santo Domingo.  We were told it was going to be an hour drive, so I fell asleep. I know this doesn’t make for good blogging, not being able to see anything, but I, personally, was tired. Aside from that now. We arrived at the field and walked past a few smaller fields. We were pleasantly surprised at the conditions of the field, being a very well groomed field.
Alex prepares to catch a throw down to second during Monday afternoon's contest against the La Javilla baseball club.
As we saw the other team warming up, I started sizing up the competition. They were a fairly large team with a few guys that looked like they could play. The game started and the pitcher they had throwing had good speed but not a lot of control. He walked a few guys in the first inning and we capitalized on it, scoring two runs. We scored one more in the next inning, Holt Davis shutting them down offensively the inning before, and our half of the inning ended. In between the innings in the DR team’s warm up the catcher was doing his throw down to second and hit the pitcher in the right arm (his throwing arm). He was pulled the next inning after we continued to score.
Alex spends time with a local village boy during this morning's visit to Villa Inocencia.
The game went on like this with the exception of them scoring two runs. In the last inning they scored two more runs but we ended up winning 10-4. After the game we met with the other team, and gave each of them a Yadier Molina Card and an Albert Pujols card. They signed a ball, while Holt gave his testimony. A great moment to interact with the other team and share with them a part of our lives.

This has been an awesome experience, and I am glad I can share it with a really great group of guys!
